Friday Dev Update: Multiplayer Questions and Answers
One of the best things about video games is playing with your friends. I know the best memories I have are usually Halo LAN parties or playing a cooperative game through the story. The point is this: multiplayer is awesome. We agree with this sentiment. The recent span of games released, even indie, often have multiplayer or at least the promise of multiplayer. Naturally we get a lot of questions about multiplayer and today I wanted to answer those and give you our thoughts and plans for multiplayer. Will Salt eventually have multiplayer?
Yes. Salt will eventually be multiplayer. We love the idea of sailing around the world with your friends and discovering what the different islands have to offer. Salt will definitely be a fun game for multiplayer and though we don't have all the details worked out, we know it will be fun.
How soon will multiplayer be implemented?
Our first and top priority is to create a fun, immersive, and adventurous single player game that doesn't rely on other players to have fun. This has been the goal from the very beginning. We want there to be plenty of content in the game for you to enjoy with or without other players. For that reason, we are currently focused on adding more content and fleshing out the game a good bit more before we move on to multiplayer. Currently some things we know we want implemented first are settling, more island types, more wildlife and enemies, an overarching story and lore, GUI overhaul, and other improvements and additions. If we were to stop what we were doing right now and focus on adding multiplayer, it would stagnate the content and progress of the game for months on end and that's not something we want to do just yet.
Won't multiplayer be more difficult to add later in development?
Because we are planning on doing multiplayer, we are keeping it in mind when we add in new content and mechanics. We look at the single player and multiplayer aspects before we push updates, and we are constantly thinking about how it will work behind the scenes when multiplayer is implemented. This will greatly smooth out the process when the time comes.
We want multiplayer as much as everyone else and can't wait to implement it. It will happen, but first we are going to flesh out the game more and ensure that it is an enjoyable and complete experience as a single player game.

We are all waiting the MP/Co-op. It will increase the number of players and supporters, so why don't do it now?
ReplyDeleteeven if it takes more time than a normal update
I want coop in this game or i want back my money MF . I pay this game because it's beautiful but is mandatory multiplayer or coop (4 people)
ReplyDeleteNice to see people are very supportive. (If you were unable to tell, that was sarcasm.)
Deleteeagerly awating multiplay, lan or friends only list.. private game etc.. keep up the good work guys :)
ReplyDeleteI feel like this game needs multiplayer, and the bigger ships need crew members. Please add as soon as possible. Also, love the game. Keep up the good work.
ReplyDeleteMulti player would be a fun option, but I hope it is just that, an OPTION. There are a lot of players who don't live on facebook, and don't play with all their "friends". Many games have become impossible to play for individuals who want/have to play alone. I hope this game doesn't turn into another game, where all you do is battle everyone else. Please keep MP an option!
ReplyDeleteyay, spammers
ReplyDeleteI was thinking about ship wars like pirates
ReplyDeleteTook me time to read all the comments, but I really enjoyed the article. It proved to be Very helpful to me and I am sure to all the commenters here! It’s always nice when you can not only be informed, but also entertained!

When you add multi player will it just be a co-op? or will there be pvp as well.
ReplyDeleteAny multiplayer will be amazing. Many people waits for it
ReplyDeleteI will definitely buy this game when multiplayer comes out. I play games almost exclusively with friends, and this looks really fun to play with friends. Until then, I'll sit on the sidelines waiting anxiously.
ReplyDeleteI strongly agree this game is focused on single player ... but if you want to add multiplayer, please dont make it 100% online... I really love this game, this game is my first large open world game I ever played..
ReplyDeleteMultiplayer doesn't necessarily make a game good. One can think of several multiplayer games that get boring after awhile. To me, multiplayer has to have a good foundation otherwise it will fail. So my advice is to take your time and continue building a great single player game.
ReplyDeleteI'm gonna have to hold my money until that multilayer/co-op comes out. The game looks great from the demo but like many games like it I'll be bored in days without friends to explore with.

ReplyDeleteBut what about pvp? I mean what if players want to duke it out with other players? i mean we got these ships and everyone loves ship combat.
ReplyDeleteThe fact is, without Multiplayer the pirates are lifeless toons. They just stand where they are, or stay in their area. The other NPCs who attack are also toonish. Multiplayer (as an Option) would provide real time combat, co-op, and competition; all of which would be great fun. Vastly more people would purchase the game if it were Multiplayer (Option). Fact is, this game was made for Multiplayer, in my opinion, and not for Single Player. I had my fun with it. And it was fun. I expect to return to it one day. But I will tell you that I and hundreds of other people would buy this for people we know, and thousands and thousands of other people would buy the game for the first time, if it were Multiplayer (Option). So, while it is nice that you want to perfect the story and make this a wonderful Single Player experience... but doesn't a ton of money to help develop that also sound good? If you are worried about a lot of people trying the game with Multiplayer (Option) and being disappointed; I would suggest that the sooner you do it (i.e. while still in "Beta") the better. Players understand Early Access. If you arrive at Multiplayer (Option) too late, then I think you may have more blowback from those who wait to buy and try it then vs. if you did it, I don't know...by the end of March, 2017.
ReplyDeletePersonally I am very happy the main focus is on Single Player. I really love the game and don't like multiplayer games too much. For content it would be nice to see a few more things that can decorate your ship.
ReplyDeleteGlad to see your sticking with the game experience and content as a single player for a better base game to expand on with multiplayer. Heck them doing it this way may open up even bigger doors later for mechanics and content. Also the way they are doing updates keeping both the current single player updated and leaving the room needed for expanding on top of the content for the multiplayer side of things rather than just throwing it in at the end at the last minute and having a lot of unforeseen bugs from poor planning during content and mechanic updates. If they do multiplayer right it could be a good long term environment for salt with a large group of players in one game. The possibilities are endless with multiplayer with this game keep up the good work guys.
ReplyDeleteif you are keen for 6-8 players, then its pretty simple, yes, check "Port 2 Multitap" and now the tabs should be Pad1A, Pad1B, Pad1C, Pad1D, Pad2A, Pad2B, Pad2C and Pad2D. Those are the 8 pads that you have to configure.

Professionally written blogs are rare to find, however I appreciate all the points mentioned here. I also want to include some other writing skills which everyone must aware of.สล็à¸à¸• scr
ReplyDeleteI wonder if it will just be lan, I would like it if I could play with some of my buddy's on steam, most of my friends either don't know about, care about or play the game. I hope it wont be lan restricted but if so i will just play till i get bored, then after some time ill possibly play again, its how it happens most of the time with me, rotating from game to game lol
